We have a wonderful story to tell………….an important tale about the efforts and support of our small community, Elsie, MI. Elsie is the home of the Elsie Area Food Bank (EAFB), started years ago by a Jr. High youth group who saw a need and wanted to fill it. The EAFB has grown and is loved and supported by local churches, community businesses, charitable groups and individual citizens.
The Elsie Area Food Bank covers the four adjoining corners of Clinton, Gratiot, Shiawassee and Saginaw counties. Nestled in this juncture are the eight localities that it serves Elsie, Ovid, Ashley, Bannister, Chapin, Henderson, Carland and Shepardsville. In the past 12 months the EAFB has helped 397 different families.
For the past several years a bake sale at the Dorman Gallery, Car show downtown, a burn out contest at the park, a FREE craft show on main st….all to help raise money for the food bank. At the Free Fall Festival people spend the day enjoying vendors, a car show and burn-out contest, a baking contest. The 2015 Free Fall Festival collectively raised $10,347.82 and 2000 pounds of food. Our community and the surrounding communities have always generously shown support for these events that help fill the food bank shelves. This year we are not having a garage sale or raffle/auction, but will have vendors, music, bake sale, car show and burn-out contest, children’s activities, and a non-perishable food drive.
The Free Fall Festival Committee is made up of volunteers who are excited to be a part of helping the EAFB.
